House Speaker Mike Johnson has stated that he has no knowledge of President Donald Trump’s recent dinner for holders of the Official Trump (TRUMP) token and declined to say whether the list of guests should be made public.
The dinner has drawn criticism from 35 House Democrats, who have asked the Department of Justice (DOJ) to investigate it.
They said the event might have included foreign investors and could violate laws that ban US officials from accepting money or gifts from foreign governments without permission from Congress.

Speaking with CNN’s Jake Tapper on May 25, Johnson said he had not heard about the May 22 private dinner event. When asked about it, he said he had been focused on passing a $1.6 trillion government funding bill and was not in a position to comment.
Johnson also claimed President Trump was “the most transparent president” and believed the president had “nothing to hide”.
CNN’s Tapper pointed out that the full list of guests has not been shared, and there is no information on whether any of the money linked to the event came from outside the US. He then told Johnson:
I really have a difficult time imagining that if this was a Democratic president doing the exact same thing, you wouldn’t be outraged.
