A man from Queensland, Shane Stephen Duffy, has handed over a property, a car, and a set of Bitcoin
In a May 18 statement, AFP’s Criminal Assets Confiscation Taskforce announced they had taken control of nearly 25 Bitcoin, a waterfront house, and a Mercedes-Benz. These assets are worth about 4.5 million Australian dollars, or around 2.88 million US dollars.
This case began in September 2018, when law enforcement in Luxembourg sent details to Australia about suspicious Bitcoin transfers. The AFP later connected the transactions to a Queensland man with a past criminal record.

According to local news outlet 7NEWS, Duffy’s earlier charges were related to selling private data from the game League of Legends.
Although no new criminal charges were filed, the AFP asked a court to approve the seizure of the assets. In April, the court ruled that the man’s property, vehicle, and cryptocurrency had no clear link to legal income.
Commander Jason Kennedy from the AFP explained that the agency has the legal authority to take items it believes are tied to criminal activity. He noted that money gained from illegal actions is often used to support other offences.
The AFP also stated that all proceeds from the seized assets will be placed in a special fund, which is used to support public safety programs and to help law enforcement agencies across Australia.
